Assessment of Capacity.
In addition to an initial assessment of need in the area of sexuality, relationships and safeguarding, I offer assessments of capacity to consent to sexual relationships. This assessment can be useful where there are concerns about a specific relationship, or multiple relationships; and for individuals where there are concerns about vulnerability or potential sexual exploitation.
This process involves a structured assessment, usually carried out over a few sessions, looking at an individual’s existing knowledge in the area of sexuality, consent and power dynamics. It can also help to identify an individual’s education and support needs in the area of expression of sexuality, vulnerability and safeguarding.
It tends to be an engaging and often interesting process for clients, and can be used flexibly according to their needs. Line drawings designed for the purpose of sex and relationships education may be used as part of the assessment, as well as discussion, questions and the presentation of different scenarios.
